During the 6 o’clock mass last Sunday at the church of Saint Paul the Apostle in Copacabana, Father Eusébio asked the faithful:
– How many of you are willing to forgive your enemies?
The majority raised their hands, except for a small, frail old lady in the second row, supported by a private nurse.
– Dona Mariazinha, are you not willing to forgive your enemies?
– I have no enemies! She replied, sweetly.
– Dona Mariazinha, that is very rare! Said the priest.
He then asked:
– How old are you, ma’am?
And she replied:
– 98 years old!
The congregation in the church stood up and applauded the elderly woman enthusiastically.
– Sweet Lady Mariazinha, could you come and tell us all how to live for 98 years and not have enemies?
– With pleasure, she said.
The cute old lady then slowly made her way to the altar, supported by her companion, and took the pulpit. She turned to face the faithful, adjusted the microphone with her trembling hands and then said solemnly, looking at the visibly emotional attendees:
– Because all those sons of a gun are already dead!
