When I moved to California, I was on edge because of the earthquakes. My friend Linda, who had lived there her whole life, was indifferent to them. However, I remember one time when we stopped at a traffic light, her car started shaking.
She seemed worried until I stammered:
– I think there’s an earthquake happening!
– Thank goodness! – she said. – I thought there was something wrong with my car.
Wrong number
One time, the phone rang at two in the morning, when my husband and I were already asleep.
– Wrong number – I heard my husband grumble, before hanging up the phone receiver.
But a few minutes later, the phone rang again. This time, I heard him say:
– One pepperoni with extra cheese and one calabrese? Arriving in 20 minutes.
– What was that? – I asked.
– I took his order. Now we can sleep.
